Wind has significant potential to increase countries' renewable capacity growth

In the power sector, the share of renewables is projected to rise from 30% in 2023 to 46% by 2030, with solar and wind driving nearly all of this expansion. By the end of the decade, wind is expected to become the second-largest source of renewable electricity after solar PV, overtaking hydropower.

Although the wind sector has faced hurdles in recent years due to inflation and high interest rates, it is expected to rebound as new policies adapt to the changing economic environment, faster permitting is introduced, and project financing improves. Compared to 2017–2023, onshore wind capacity additions are projected to nearly double by 2030, while offshore wind growth is anticipated to almost quadruple.
